WALKING/BIKING TRAIL COMING SOON

Lindsay Area Development with the Village of Lindsay were awarded a grant from the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission for $250,000 to build a 4,500-foot-long (.85 mile) concrete trail for pedestrians and bicyclists around the village park. This will be a great addition to the park and provide a safe option for walking/running and biking.

The desire to bring a walking trail to Lindsay was voiced by the community in 2017 through the community attitude survey regarding the services and priorties for the Village of Lindsay. As a result, work began to identify potential locations as well as cost estimates. Local government worked closely with Platte County to clear up land ownership to ensure the entire trail would be located on Village property.

The potential trail route is very scenic and compliments the other amenities in the area. The route encircles the entire park, including the practice football field, war memorial, playgrounds, shelters, concession stand, restrooms, sand volleyball courts, tennis courts, basketball courts and baseball diamonds. Users would be able to actively supervise children using any of the facilities in the vicinity.

The proposed trail will be the only one of its kind in Lindsay, and the immediate surrounding area. As a result, it is anticipated that utilization will expand beyond the residents of Lindsay and be a draw for families in the region. The safety the trail will provide is immeasurable because many current neighborhoods do not have sidewalks and residents and students use the gravel roads for walking/running and biking.

Total project costs are expected to be $346,117 with the funding to be provided by the following groups:

  • NE Game and Parks Grant $250,000
  • LAD $76,429 (and any increased costs due to inflation)
  • Village of Lindsay (maximum $19,668)
